Hi Erin, guess who? Hahaha, very much enjoyed reading your first newsletter. Including your rambling and venting, we all go through shit and it's kind of nice to know we are not alone in the shit we're in. I hope that makes sense? Do you know, right now I'm going through office politics at work, even though I don't officially return to work until next month.

So you asked two questions, let's address them one by one. I enjoy hearing vent about work, to quote Rocky from the film Rocky Balboa "Life ain't all sunshine and rainbows" and there are times when you just have to let it out, if you don't, you will just make yourself unwell. You are human writing like this identifies with your audience. I'm not saying you have to give your life story, but just be you.

Answer your second question, I would like to know who your influences our, both past & present. There are so many photographers/artists out ,it's always good to get new ideas and perspectives on genre. I learn from what you in the same way that I learn from someone like Saul Leiter, that's it.

I enjoy your photowalks, because I do you have any fascination with Japan.

Stay safe look forward to your next newsletter

Dear Frank,

Thank you for your warm comment! I'm really sorry that you, too, are going through some work troubles. We don't deserve this negativity, but at least we have photography to somehow mellow out the craziness, right? Props to Balboa for that quote!

Thank you too for attending my virtual photowalks. It's nice to share with everyone what I see here. Feels less lonesome whenever I do so.

By the way, I shall be deleting this Substack page soon. But please know that you can read my newsletters and other special updates here: love.erincrxss.com

See you there! 🖤

So much good to respond to here. Past Present Future. My favorite aspect of your Monowalks is the black & white. Looking forward to your Spotify playlist today. Your self-awareness (along with the passion and dedication) is refreshing.

Hello, John! ☺️

Thank you for your kind words as always. The playlist I shared is very random - I add old and new tunes that capture my ear / amplify my mood upon hearing them. Hope you can share yours too!

Hi Erin!

I think it’s brilliant using tenses to group your thoughts and ideas, particularly their inherent nature of providing chronological context. Would like to know your sources of inspirations for photo projects too!

PS: A pleasant surprise to see the message here🙏!

Hello, Wilson. 😌

Thank you for reading and appreciating the "tenses" concept.

Sources of inspirations for my photo projects...would be surprising to others, maybe - because I tend to be more inspired after watching films/movies rather than looking at another photographer's works. Good question! I'll try to elaborate more about this next time. 🤍

And no, thank *you* for your message!

1. I really like the poem about else and more (Ophelia) as it is interesting to read and it shows the vulnerability of a woman

2. I would like to read more about the thought process that goes into shooting daily around Tokyo and how do you select photos for your photobook

Hey, Syam! ☺️

Thanks for reading my 1st post. Happy that you liked it.

1. Thank you, I have 11 more pictures + 11 more proems from that set, and I'm thinking of sharing all of them soon to commemorate its 10-year anniversary.

2. My daily shoots around Tokyo doesn't require a lot. I shoot primarily to de-stress, so I would like it to be as spontaneous and lightweight as possible. I usually use my iPhone 11: accessible especially when I'm walking/running between train stations. I only bring one other camera.

As for selecting photos, it depends on the title.

- For NOIR MYTHS, since I'm only using film photographs (for now), I weave a certain story first before picking the pictures that best suit it.

- For DYPSCHITS, pairs have already been carefully curated, so when I compile 100 pairs into a book, I sequence them chronologically.

Thanks for your questions! 🤍
